Latin Word of the Day- aequālis (equal, even)
The sentence pattern we are studying this week
provides us with an opportunity to communicate how one things equals another. These examples from
scripture show us who He says He is.

REVIEW:
We took time to CLASSIFY a sentence. GOOD JOB STUDENTS!
NEW GRAMMAR: Here are the new concepts we covered
today.
P.O.S. Linking Verbs Chart C
A linking verb makes an assertion by joining two
words. Hint: verb can be replaced by “=“
Linking verbs do not show action in a sentence. They only link
information to help the reader understand more about the subject. Being familiar with this verb type is the key to identifying this
pattern. Linking verbs and helping verbs must be memorized.
Kinds of Linking Verbs:
1. “To Be” verbs: be, being, been, am, is, are, was,
were
2. Sense verbs: feel, sound, taste, look, smell
3. Other: appear, become, grows, remain, seem, stay
“Feel, become, remain, taste, Seem, appear, Look, sound, stay,
smell, grow, am, are, is, was, were, Be, being, been.” (Remember the song on CC
connected!)
PATTERN: Remember how I call the S-Vl-PN and the S-Vl-PA
patterns TWINS? Well, today I was only to introduce the PN pattern, but I
couldn't have just introduced one without the other, but we will focus on the
PN today. J
S-Vl-PN
A
linking verb will rename the subject with a predicate noun,
making a sentence pattern like this: S-Vl-PN (Subject-Linking Verb-Predicate
Noun)
S-Vl-PN: In a Subject—Verb
linking—Predicate Nominative pattern, the linking verb renames (nomen, noun) the subject with a predicate
nominative.
A
predicate nominative:
(this is a NOUN from the
Noun Chart (aka SPIDO PONA) it is the “P”. A predicate nominative is a noun or
pronoun that follows a linking verb and refers to the subject of the verb.
NOUN!
S-Vl-PA
A linking verb
will describe the subject with a predicate adjective,
making a sentence pattern like this: S-Vl-PA (Subject-Linking Verb-Predicate
Adjective)
CC West is AWESOME!
S-Vl-PA: In a Subject—Verb linking—Predicate
Adjective pattern, linking verb describes thesubject with a predicate adjective.
A predicate adjective: follows a linking verb and describes the subject.
