Adjective Chart L
Can anyone tell me what an adjective is? (An adjective
modifies a noun or pronoun by describing, qualifying, or limiting.) This
definition will be on the board and the students will fill in the correct words
after I erase them.
What are the questions adjectives answer? (What kind? How
many? Which? Whose?) These are the FAQs used to
identify adjectives.
So... an adjective is added to help explain a noun more
precisely.
AGAIN the best way to know if you are looking
at an adjective is to know what questions to ask. These questions are really
important to memorize, so that you can tell the difference between an adjective
and an adverb.
We enjoyed adding to this sentence to altar the meaning.
The ___________ turkey looked ___________.
A linking verb
will rename the subject with a predicate noun, making a
sentence pattern like this: S-Vl-PN (Subject-Linking Verb-Predicate Noun)
A sleeping bull is a bulldozer.
A linking verb
will describe the subject with a predicate adjective,
making a sentence pattern like this: S-Vl-PA (Subject-Linking Verb-Predicate
Adjective)

REVIEW:
We took time to listen in on our decorations using our sheets. Thank you to our
volunteers!
STYLE: BANNED WORDS! We recapped all the words we
are NOT to use in our papers. WHY? Because WE ARE SOPHISTICATED!
STRUCTURE: YAY for a new structure, and a fun one at that. This one is
called WRITING FROM
PICTURES and we do JUST that. 1
paragraph per picture. The goal is to practice CREATIVITY, to help the kiddos this through past tense, and to reinforce the topic/clincher rule.
We looked at the above picture and answered these questions together.
What
is the central fact? What is happening right here? THEN we reflected that in our clincher.
We continued on with: What is happening? Why are they hugging? What
are they thinking/feeling? What do you think happened before this picture to
cause this scene?
We wrote out
This is what you get to
do this week. Moms, I do not care what the kids write about, use the IEW resource, use a comic, or a painting in your home. Add
dress ups and walla! You have a paper!
