Week 6

Words of Encouragement
“Therefore, preparing your minds for action and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be bought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

Congrats! You made it through the first SIX weeks! The foundations have been laid, and now we can set our minds to the action of learning Essentials!

THANK YOU to Mrs. Rucker for leading out Week 6. Isn't she just a jewel!

REVIEW:
WEEK 6 EEL BINGO!!!

NEW GRAMMAR: Here are the new concepts we covered today.
P.O.S: Conjunctions Chart H
A conjunction is a word used to connect words, phrases, or clauses together.

We talked about  Coordinating Conjunctions (because they are the CONNECTORS we will be using in here these next few weeks.) I briefly touched on Correlative Conjunctions, Subordinating Conjunction, Relative Pronoun, Conjunctive Adverbs

SENTENCE STRUCTUREChart G Compound A compound sentence consists of at least two independent clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction.

So with a compound sentence, we will focus on FANBOYS. These are easy to identify.

PURPOSEDeclarative- makes a statement

PATTERNS-Vt-DO,  In a Subject-Verb Transitive pattern, the verb transfers the action of the verb to a noun or pronoun (direct object) that follows it. To find the direct object, ask “(Subj.)(Verb) who or what?”

The class practiced this COMBO OF 3.

Take a look here at Compound Diagrams. (remember, a conjunction connects words, phrases, or sentences)

(DIALECTIC)
COMBO OF 3: We put these three combinations together to write a few sentences.
#1:  Dictate sentence.
#2:  Check Mechanics.
#3:  Question confirmation.
#4:  Diagram Sentences.

ENJOY THOSE CARABINER CLIPS! Remember what the symbolize!!

MATH

The students worked on Board Slam in their small groups.  Sounds like it was a hit! We will pair up more in the future. I will also be sure to start off with some MENTAL MATH. I sat that aside a few weeks to focus on N2K. I am happy to bring it back!

IEW

REVIEW:
The students listened for the dress ups in their table group. Then Mrs. Rucker read aloud the story in the appendix and had helped the student identify the borrowed conflict.  The class decided it was also very similar to ugly duckling.  Many common stories have common conflicts and morals.

The class brainstormed titles for 3 little pigs. We brainstormed common stories/fairy tales and I wrote them on the board.  Groups had about 5 minutes to break out and go through the story sequence chart as a group with a new story… (ex. 3 cheeseburgers and the jaws of death).  Moms did a great job of facilitating this at the tables.

Remember, there is NO SOURCE TEXT this week- you can chose ANY STORY or just complete what you started in the group.Have fun and let the kids be silly.  There will be plenty of time to write about Colonial America this year.  :)
