WEEK 8

Words of Encouragement
“Therefore, preparing your minds for action and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be bought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

EEL

NEW GRAMMAR: Here are the new concepts we covered this week.
P.O.S: Prepositions (Pr) Chart J
1.A preposition relates a noun or pronoun to another word.
The preposition, its object, and the modifiers between them create a “prepositional phrase”.
Prepositions are always followed by a noun, which is called the “object of the preposition”. (OP)
If it modifies a verb- then the Prep. Phrase is adverbial, meaning it acts as a verb. (How? When? Where? Why? How often? How much? To what extent? Under what condition?)
If it modifies a noun-then the Prep.Phrase is adjectival, the phrase acts as an adjective. (what kind, how many, which? Whose?)
A. She sat between her friends. (((Sat where? between her friends – adverbial)))
B. I bought the dress with the blue stripes. (((Which dress?- adjectival)))
C. See how the prepositional phrase is added on a diagram?

3. Don't forget the song/dance for the Prepositions. Memorizing these prepositions would be wise! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wP4BVdA9zYg

4. Jennifer read the little snippet and the students identified ALL the Prs and OPs.

COMBO OF 3 SENTENCE:
Jennifer did a fabulous job coming up with a sentence for the class using our newfound knowledge! It seemed like there was a hang up with identifying some parts of the sentence. Jennifer and I worked together once I got back and worked the sentence out. THIS IS THE FUN PART OF ESSENTIALS!! :D I had our work double checked with a few outside sources.

CLASSIFICATION: Cd, Dec/S-Vt-DO, Dec/S-Vt-DO

The hang up was with the Prepositional Phrase. CC has given us a published list of parts of speech. The word 'as' is only found in our conjunction list, not in our preposition list, but know that list is not exhaustive. In this sentence, 'as' is our preposition and we have a compound OP- state and state. The Pr. phrase is ADVERBIAL as it is answering the question HOW did Missouri enter- slave or free.

REVIEW:
Within our table groups, we took time to listen to eachother’s paper. While our friends read their paper, the audience listened and documented any stylistic techniques using the scavenger hunt.
PREPARE AT HOME for a fun vocab game- FAMILY FEUD on WEEK 9!

STYLE:
Quality Adjectives/Banned Adjectives: An adjective is a word that describes a noun. Adjective tells things like what color, what size, what shape, what kind, what emotion, how many. There are some plain ol’ adjectives that we are BANNING. Words like good, pretty, big. Let us look at the SRP to replace them with QUALITY ADJECTIVES.
www.asia.b clause: this is an acronym of words that you can use to add a clause into your sentence. This clause will help you add more detail into a sentence.

STRUCTURE:
We practiced another round of summarizing using the Louisiana Purchase source text. I think this source is captivating. NOW, you guys get to practice your MAD SKILLZ at home and finish building a paper. We did the first three steps together!

Here are your specific steps:
Step 1: Read Text, underline key words if needed--DONE
Step 2: Fill in Topic Sentence--DONE
Step 3: KWO 7 Interesting Text Facts--DONE

For those who brainstormed the POEM ACTIVITY: how far did you get at home?
Sometime between Week 8- Week 10 I would like to offer a POEM ACTIVITY which is mentioned in Lesson 11. This lesson is a poem on AMERICA using Quality Adjectives. We will formally introduce Adjectives on Week 9. I want to offer this as an extra credit activity between these weeks.
